ION Artist News - AprilMon 27th Apr
While we stay united at home, waiting for the storm to pass, taking us through these testing times has been the incredible outpour of new music from the artists we love. From mouth-watering collaborations, new releases and astounding mixes, here are some of the highlights of the acts that will be playing on the sunny beach fronts of Dhërmi, Albania, 2nd - 9th September.
It’s not often we see two industry heavyweights collide so when Daniel Avery and Roman Flügel announced they will be joining forces there was a real frenzy in the music world. Recently teasing us with snippets from their upcoming EP, the Noun project is everything we hoped for and more. From the dark warping trip of Meeting Of The Minds to the lush hypnotic romp of Team Silent, the two tracker is a powerful convergence from two masters of the dancefloor.
A true pivot and shining light of the industry, B. Traits’ work as an empowering underground purveyor during her BBC Radio 1 days will never go understated. The onset of the new decade, however, gave birth to a new chapter in Baby T. A juxtaposing alias with a dark, heavy, industrial twist. Displaying her ever-present eclectic dynamism, the upcoming debut EP features 1 track, reconstructed 5 ways, one of which is this piledriving broken techno cut.
Floating Points produced one of the albums of the year, in Crush, and recently revisited the standout single Bias with a special 12” repress of his live performance from Manchester’s Warehouse Project. Capturing the magic of his live set, the extended 10 minute version features an acid drenched passageway into dancefloor euphoria, placing you at the heart of that blissful night at the depot.
The queen of the underground, Nina Kraviz has been keeping busy during the lockdown but, unfortunately, her neighbours have not been as pleased as the rest of us. Luckily, famed Moscow club Mutabor stepped in to provide a carefree space for the Trip boss to let loose. Dishing out a psychedelic serving of stripped down percussive squelchers, she takes us back to the dim lit thumping basements we so sorely miss.
Another meeting of two titans. Dystopian kingpin, Rødhåd, and techno renegade, Antigone, came together recently to unleash WSNWG003. A 5 track stomper laced in blistering rave, earth shaking melody and behemoth battleship-like horns, signaling the incoming dancefloor mayhem. No doubt we’ll be hearing these in the after hours at ION.
The young phenom taking electronic music by storm, Imogen's bass heavy antics continue to rattle ear drums in isolation. The NTS resident’s recent feature on esteemed French culture mag, Tsugi, was another showcase of her coveted face-melting record collection. A true shelling of devious mischief.
