The ION Festival Community: 5 shared mindsetsWed 22nd Apr
Social distancing has recently helped bring everything into perspective, not least how guilty we’ve been of taking even the most basic things for granted: the multitude of parties and events on offer, the freedom to roam further than the next few blocks and loving the company of our friends and like-minded souls. Community, belonging and a sense of connection is essential to our wellbeing, and if this situation has taught us anything, it’s to cherish and cling to these most fundamental of human needs.
We’ve also had plenty of time to reflect on two principles which are at the core of ION: togetherness and the importance of the shared experience. As we look ahead to our September festival, we present five shared mindsets which we feel will be key in one very special community we hope you will be part of.
Travel and exploration of our planet have been part of the human desire - and the journey to a less trodden part of the globe only adds to the charm and uniqueness. That feeling is heightened when you’re going somewhere new. Travel to Dhërmi will include transport by air, sea and land. The ION community will embrace this adventure and grasp the opportunity to start something from scratch in uncharted territory. On both a physical and metaphorical level, ION is a new frontier waiting to be explored – for us that’s a huge part of the appeal.
At ION our community will be nestled in a small village, proximity part of the plan. We’re focussing on breaking down barriers rather than putting them up so we will avoid socially constructed tiers, such as VIP areas. ION will be a shared experience and we’re extending this ethos to include the artists we’ve booked as well, many of whom will spend an extended period of time with us. With longer sets as standard and alternative concepts from a few of your favourites on the cards, we’re going to experience artists in a whole different light - up close and personal.
A relaxed vibe, no stress and leaving any anxiety at home is crucial to ION’s community, so breathe in deep and fill those lungs with calm and energy. ION will look to decrease the hustle, bustle and congestion of every-day life, as reflected in our fully pedestrianised festival site, which will also help in our efforts to keep our carbon footprint down. ION also presents the chance to decompress in unspoiled surroundings. Add in watersports, paragliding and snorkelling, with the odd session of Yoga, deep tissue massage and meditation and we hope you enjoy the down time as much as the ups.
The ION community understand that a beat is so much more than “just dance music”. It’s a lifestyle choice and a mentality - and you’ll be excited to find other like-minded people by your side. Our community have a shared passion for environmental consciousness, to clear up after ourselves and to leave no trace. We’re not limiting ourselves to Albania either. Soon we’ll be releasing details about an exciting project in Peru which we’re certain will resonate with you all. By attending ION this year, you will be making that project a reality.
ION is a very different kind of music event. Our aim is to bring together all the elements required to create those little moments of magic and life-affirming memories that will exceed the expectations. We want ION to be the catalyst behind new friendships that transcend the duration of the festival. ION might only last a week, but as we invite you to dance in many unforgettable settings, we hope the positive ripple will flow outward and we’ll be able to ride the wave of elation until we reconvene.
